This print tells the story of a young widow who is left alone with only her son and an elderly servant. To support the family and send her son to school she must work at her loom. One day her son grew lazy and did not finish his homework. To demonstrate his error the widow cut her unfinished cloth from the loom and scolded him: “Look, my work is now useless, just like your unfinished education.” The boy finished his homework.
